Plant a PEACE Pole

Peacepolephoto.png

A PEACE Pole is an internationally-recognized symbol of hope, standing for PEACE on earth. Each PEACE Pole shares the message May Peace Prevail on Earth in different languages on each of its four or eight sides. There are estimated 250,000 PEACE Poles in every country in the world. They are dedicated as monuments to PEACE.  We see each PEACE Pole planted as a sign of “STANDING-UP” for peace in your community. Peace Poles are sanctioned by the United Nations.

PEACE Poles can be purchased or donated at a minimal cost

4-sides:  $280

Poles are individualized with selection of languages.

Pole could be unveiled during your Peace Day commemoration

Be a Non-Violent Hero

Gululai Ismail Aware Girls

How can we encourage young Muslims to choose life, not violent jihad? Until she was 16, Gulalai Ismail hoped to die a martyr. Now she leads a network of educators in Pakistan which has helped 10,000 young people at risk of radicalization to build peaceful communities. In this talk she explains her journey from would-be jihadi to a passionate campaigner against intolerance and extremist violence. Gulalai was just 16 when she co-founded Aware Girls, in Pakistan, with her sister, Saba. Driven by a passion to challenge a culture of intolerance and extremism, Gulalai and Saba began running workshops in their home town to provide girls and young women with leadership skills to challenge oppression and fight for their rights to an education and equal opportunities. Based in Peshawar, north-west Pakistan, Aware Girls has grown into an internationally renowned organisation that since 2002 has trained, empowered and inspired hundreds of young people in Pakistan.

Support or Work for Local Peace-Building Organizations

Peace Direct is an award-winning, international NGO supporting local people in some of the most challenging conflict environments worldwide.

We are based in London, UK, and have offices in Washington, DC and New York.

If you’d like to work for Peace Direct, visit our jobs page to see current vacancies for interns or staff.

A key focus of Peace Direct’s work is to develop a network of local peacebuilding partners operating around the world to resolve conflict and create safer communities. Both through expanding our existing partnerships of local peacebuilding organisations, and building a wider network of grassroots organisations, we are keen to connect organisations and initiatives around the world who have the shared aim of supporting local people and building peace in some of the most difficult war zones in the world.

Through our network, we highlight the work of local peacebuilders to raise the profile of their work, connect them with other like-minded organisations, and to share their insights with a wider international community.
